Our May 6 session will deal with developing a simple Local WordPress Site on your laptop without an Internet connection. Please bring your laptops. We will be using Desktop Server by ServerPress to go through a series of brief hands-on vignettes using WordPress on your laptop during the meetup.

Please install the Desktop Server Limited (free version) on your laptop before our May 6 meetup. To get the free version click on https://serverpress.com/get-desktopserver/ . Your hands-on participation is volunteer and optional.

Please note, you may use MAMP or XAMPP instead of Desktop Server to create a local server. The local server is much like the server that runs on your web hosting service.

You can install pre-bundled programs that contain all the functions necessary to implement a LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL/MariaDB PHP) local server stack. Desktop Server or MAMP (for Mac), or XAMPP (Mac or Windows) can install a local server on your laptop. I highly recommend for our meetup Desktop Server because it’s the easiest to install, has support and can be be easily upgraded.

By using Desktop Server as a local WordPress development environment, it will allow us to perform some hands-on workshop activities during our meetup without concerns for delays of Internet access and also you can take it with you on your laptop to study the subject matter further at your own pace.

1. Brief review of the Installation of Desktop Server
2. Implementation of a local website
3. Restore and work with an practice Blueprint Website for this meetup
4. Walk-through a few illustrative hands-on scenarios using CSS for
changing pages and posts
5. Q & A
