Plan Before You Build: Information Architecture & Content Strategy

January 5, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Meetup: Tampa Bay (formerly St. Petersburg)

Featured Speaker: Jim True

If you’ve been doing websites for clients for a while, you know the hardest thing to get out of them is their CONTENT. What if you could create an information model for their business, how pertinent information can be re-used, modeled and promoted to develop a Content strategy for your clients?

We’ll be talking about:
– Custom Post Types & Custom Taxonomy and what they mean and how they can be used for your Content Model
– How to break down complicated websites into specific, connected areas of content to better organize and make it easier for your clients to input information.

A knowledge of WordPress is helpful, but the ‘data’ strategies we’ll be talking about can be utilized on other Content Management systems and in home grown database/front end systems.

We’ll also be taking ‘I’m building a website for a “some kind of business” type questions and helping you analyze the information architecture needed and come up with a content model and content strategy for that solution. Good time to workshop some of your sites.

Parking in St. Pete is FREE after 6PM on the street and metered before then. The Iron Yard entrance and elevator faces 1st Avenue S. Use the Gold Elevator and head up to the 3rd floor.

Jim True is the Community Manager and Support Lead at the Pods Framework (http://pods.io), a Content Development Framework for WordPress that makes working with Custom Post Types, Taxonomies and Custom fields easy. Jim has 20 years of relational database design experience.
